Lazy post: Cornhusker fan

You know the adage, “buy your kid a toy and he’ll play with the box….”

Well, give a kid a corn husk doll, and she’ll shun the store-bought versions.

Ever since we acquired these string-bound husks, the kids temporarily demoted their legit doll population.

(No, I don’t have the craft gene; they were made at a weekend event. If you’ve got a hankering to make your own, this blog offers a nice demo.)

For the past few days, Hadley has rushed home to dress her corn husk creation.

I just hope this isn’t a voodoo doll. In this photo the garment Hadley’s fashioning appears distinctly noose-like….

Lazy Post: Felix

I think we need a palate cleanser after the Martin-fest this week. (Quit doing stupid things, I told him today. Give someone else a chance on the blog.)

So here’s a photo of Felix — our once-domestic, now-feral barn cat. He is a useless mouser and passes the days fleeing our approach, eating, and amassing goiter-sized fur mats.

Not a bad gig.

Note: if you receive this blog via email and missed the video of Martin falling on his head, it’s at or simply click here.

Lazy Post: Utterly Poolesville

Lazy post is just as it sounds: a quickie photo (or two or three) in lieu of musings with any literary substance.

No guarantee that images are timely or thought provoking. Think junk food; just brush the crumbs off your lap.

Scenes from last weekend’s Poolesville Day.
